To Be Center Stage

Do you know what it’s like to be the center of attention? To be in the spotlight and have control of the stage? To be deemed as intense and opinionated?

I have.

All this while I’ve been told my friends and family that I am outspoken and intense, but hey that doesn’t necessarily mean a good thing right? Maybe my friends are just saying that because I always say the wrong things? Maybe my siblings are just saying that because when I argue with them, I do it so well, their points are suddenly invalid? Maybe my parents are just saying that because when I want something, I’ll present them a (verbal) proposal they can’t reject? Hehehe.

Then I enrolled into Uni and was recognized for being outspoken and intense. In my freshman year, I was the Public Speaking Champion. In my final year, I was awarded Best Speaker during the debate finale. So I guess my friends and family meant it in a good way eh :P (Don’t ask what I was doing in between freshman and final year because I was basically lazy and always away for the weekend :B)

To be completely honest, I don’t quite fancy the idea of going in front of people and have hundred pairs of eyes focusing on my every move, listening to my every word, anticipating any mistakes I was bound to make. But you know the storyline; no one wants to do it-- I gotta be a hero and represent – I rejected but a hot guy talked me through—standing ovation-- at the end of the day everybody is happy—credit rolls while the crowd cheers. Yada yada.

So what was it like being center stage? AH-MAY-ZING. The thrill of having all eyes and ears on you is indescribable. It feels like HEY YOU I COMMAND YOUR ATTENTION, and surprisingly they obeyed LOLOLOLOL! Gotta love the electrifying rush that comes with it. If you ask me to do it all over again, relive the glorious moment, I would! The hot guy doesn't even have to talk me through it this time.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I feel like I can relate to what Fergie has in mind when she created Outspoken Intense perfume.

She wants to share with you the thrill and excitement of performing, all in one bottle.

“Alluring top notes of succulent blackberry, shining star fruit and luscious kumquat will captivate your audience. A heart of lush purple passion flower adds a bold and vibrant edge to lush gardenia and velvety orange flower petals. A base of sensual musks wrapped in white amber and blonde cedar creates enduring rhythm”.

For me, the scent is refreshing. Thanks to it, I smelled like I just got out of the shower—all day long! I absolutely love it. If you want to experience Outspoken Intense yourself, I have 3bottles to give away *one eyebrow up along with a smirk*.

TO WIN: All you have to do is write an entry on How Confidence Has Changed My Life and send the permalink in the comment box! I will pick 3 best stories and who knows, you might win the Outspoken Intense by Fergie! So what does it feel like being confident? I love it! Good luck!
CONTEST HAS ENDED.

  39. hey Hanis. You asked how confidence has changed my life?

well, since high school, i have always had the urge to be more outspoken and outgoing but heck, there are much prettier girls back then, so my esteem are quite low...Sadly to say, I let them walk all over me..They aren't bullies, mind you..don't get me wrong.. They are just more confident and poise with themselves. Well, when I entered Uni, I started to reflect my life back. It surely wasn't fun watching other shine in the limelight..So what I did was I decided to alter few traits that I can eliminate in my life..Wallah...I am no longer the timid shy girl who hope people would include her in conversations..I am much comfortable in my own skin and I no longer worry about what people say. There are no more illusions of staring eyes and smirking faces..And best of all,I have a little sister who is only 15 years old. My responsibility now is to advises her on the peer pressure issue and always reminds her that she is pretty confident girl. And I am happy to see her doing well in school. So does my confidence changed my life? heck yeah..and I am able to help my sister as well..its like killing two birds with one stone right?

Owh and the Fergie parfume seems really really cool..Please pick me!! I would love to grab one!! Okie Dokie...Byeee~~~~

  42. How confidence has changed my life...?
    Hurmmmm...

Well if you read my blog you'll know how much im struggling with my own weight problem. I've been an obese woman almost all the days that I've been alive. Since my childhood, i didn't get much confident to live life. But i'm so lucky to have a family especially my mum who always support me in anything i do.

Being an obesity girl was truly a tough situation when it comes out to be in public. It's common to see fat chicks to be treated the way they don't wanna be right? People can always say that it's your own fault being an obese, you are ugly enough to be in stage performing for the school event or what so ever.

But i far as i concerned my confidence has always taken me to face any challenges given; to be a better person. Now im already become a mom of two, and for the sake of my children life am still building the confident to loose more weight, so that i can create a better life for the whole family. I just want a happy life and sharing the confidence and the love i have in me as long as i can live in this wide world..

In short, my confidence is basically the way for me to EMBRACE MY AWESOMENESS!
    Previous weight: 99.8kg
    Currently: 75kg and still counting

Hope to be pick by you Hanis! x

  43. how confidence has changed my life

i was once a very timid lady with zero confidence and that was not the worst part, the worst part was I didn't even realize it. i always thought that it's just the way it is. i think it has something to do with how I was brought up (i am in no way blaming my parents, people's mentality back then was really conservative). due to low self esteem, i was so scared of trying new things, to defend myself, to speak up ... it got so so so bad that i can't even order my own food at fast food joints. it used to go like this ...

me : eh ko belikan aku dabel cisbege set medium
    fren : order la sendrik
me : ala takut la, aku bagi ko duit ko belikan eh
fren : bukannye akak tu nak mkn ko, order sendrik lah!
me : orderkan la, ko kan dah biasa nanti aku salah sebut order acane?
fren : ape yg susahnye kan ade menu, tunjuk je nak yg mane
me : aku boleh jaga table nanti org amek seat pulak
fren : hieieieiie ye lah ye lah bak duit! (bless this fren, she's been around for 18 years n counting :))

yes. i know. embarassing. i don't know why i was so afraid to even order my own food. ridiculous!

it all changed when i started working at my current company, my mat salleh boss pointed out that i was lack of confidence. without confidence, people will never listen to you even though you are right, mainly because whatever you said came out wrong. they came out wrong because you worry so much that you might be wrong, you worry so much because you have no confidence, you have no confidence because you have low self esteem. see how it all adds up?

what did my mat salleh boss do to boost my confidence? he assigned (more like campak) me a job i dreaded until today... kutip hutang. for the love of God and all that is Holy!!! nak order food pon menggeletar lagi kan nak mintak clients baya hutang??! oh nooooo! but the table is about to turn ...

after months of training this timid silly caterpillar turned into a vibrant colourful butterfly (mode poyo, laugh all you want). not only i was able to collect debts from clients, also from kawan2-yg-tak-sedar-diri-hutang-bertahun-tahun hahaha! my mat salleh boss sent me overseas for training, promoted me to Manager, increased my salary and many more. i am so thankful to Allah I met my mat salleh boss, who has changed my life almost completely in a professional and good way.

when i gained my confidence, other positive traits just naturally follow. i become more cheerful, helpful, easily trusted, independant, people listen to my ideas, more responsible, calmer in tough situations and the list goes on. so i urged everyone out there especially women, if you have (somehow) lost your confidence there are many many ways to gain it back. all you need is will :)

p/s : hanis, i org johor gak (ini ayat penyata, bukan ayat bodek)
